Rules of Play
&
Terms and Conditions of Booking
Welcome to The Playbarn! To ensure a safe, clean, and fun environment for everyone, we require all visitors to follow these terms and conditions. By entering our soft play centre, you agree to abide by the following rules of play:
General Admission & Supervision
Age Range: Our play facilities are designed for children from 0 to 11 years old. Older children (over 11) are not permitted to play on the equipment, to keep the environment safe and suitable for younger ones.
Adult Seating: At busy periods we have limited space and ask guests to use one table per group (regardless of the number of adults on your booking) so that everyone has a fair chance to sit. Unlike most other play centres, we do not charge for adults and we do always have additional stools available on request
Adult Supervision: All children must be supervised by a responsible adult (18+) at all times. We recommend a maximum of 5 children per adult to ensure proper supervision and safety. The Playbarn staff are on hand to monitor equipment and assist in emergencies, but parents/guardians remain fully responsible for their children’s behaviour and well-being during the visit.
Adults on Equipment: Adults are allowed on the play equipment only to assist or supervise their children when necessary. Please be mindful that the play structures are built for kids – adults should refrain from using slides or play areas without accompanying a child. Session Duration: Each play session lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. Please arrive on time for your booked session. When your time is up, ensure you promptly exit the play area so our staff can prepare for the next group or reservation this helps everyone enjoy their full playtime.
Safety & Hygiene Rules
Footwear & Attire: For everyone’s safety and hygiene, shoes must be removed before entering any play area, and socks must be worn at all times by both children and adults. If you forget socks, we have them available to purchase. We also recommend long sleeves and trousers for children to minimize the risk of friction burns on slides or other equipment. Remove any loose or sharp items (such as jewellery, badges, belts with buckles) before play to avoid injuries or damage.
Using the Play Equipment: Play gently and use the equipment as intended. Always go down slides feet-first. Do not climb up the slides or on the outside of tunnels, netted walls, or play structures. Such activities can be dangerous. Do not allow children to throw balls or toys at others, and no rough play like fighting, pushing, or wrestling. Rough play, bullying or abusive language will not be tolerated under any circumstances – children (or adults) behaving in this way may be asked to leave immediately for the safety of all.
Health & Cleanliness: Please ensure children use the toilet and wash their hands before entering the play area. This helps maintain hygiene in the play space. If your child is feeling unwell or has had a contagious illness in the past 48 hours (e.g. fever, vomiting, diarrhoea), do not visit The Playbarn until they are fully recovered – this is to prevent spreading illness to other children. Likewise, if a child develops signs of illness during play, staff may ask that they stop playing for everyone’s well-being.
Baby Changing & Accidents: For nappy changes, please use the designated baby changing areas . Do not change nappies in the play zones or café area, and dispose of used nappies in the bins provided. If a toilet accident or spill occurs, inform a staff member immediately so we can clean and sanitize the area. Keeping the play areas clean and safe is a shared responsibility – please help us by cleaning or reporting any spills or messes promptly.
General Safety: Our team conducts regular inspections to keep the equipment safe. However, play is at your own risk, and we ask that adults monitor their children’s play to prevent injuries. The Playbarn has taken reasonable steps to minimize hazards, but inherent risks (like tripping, falling, or colliding with others) are still present during active play. By entering, you acknowledge these risks. We cannot accept responsibility for accidents or injuries that occur if children are not following the rules or are not supervised.
Food and Drink Policy
No Outside Food or Drink: Only food and beverages purchased on-site (from The Playbarn café) may be consumed on the premises. Outside food or drink is not allowed, to ensure food safety and to support our facility. (Exceptions are made for baby food/formula or specific dietary needs/allergies – please speak with us in advance.) There is a café on-site offering a range of snacks, meals, and drinks for your convenience.
Eating in Designated Areas: To maintain cleanliness, no food, drinks, or chewing gum are allowed in the play areas or on the equipment. Please enjoy any snacks or meals only in the café seating area. Do not carry hot drinks into the play area for safety. If you spill any food or drink, notify our staff so it can be cleaned to prevent slips.
Allergies: We strive to be an allergy-aware centre. If your child has a severe allergy and needs special food, let our team know and we will accommodate where possible.
Conduct and Behaviour
Respect Others: We are proud to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment. Anti-social behaviour, bullying, or abuse (whether by children or adults) is not acceptable. This includes shouting at, hitting, or intimidating others, as well as abusive language. A zero-tolerance policy is in effect – anyone (child or adult) exhibiting such behavior will be asked to leave immediately, and may be barred from future visits. Rude or abusive behaviour towards our staff is taken very seriously and will not be tolerated. Follow Staff Instructions: Our staff are here to help and to keep the play centre safe. Please listen to any instructions or safety announcements given by The Playbarn team. If a staff member corrects a child’s or adult’s behaviour (for example, asking a child not to climb a slide or play in an age appropriate area, or an adult to remove a drink from the play area or stop eating outside food), we ask that you support and reinforce these instructions.
Respect Our Staff & Rules: Our team is here to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. All visitors are expected to treat staff with courtesy and respect. If you disagree with a rule or decision, please speak to us politely. Our staff are not here to be shouted at or challenged. You may not always like the rules, but they are in place for the safety and fairness of all guests, and we ask that you follow them without argument. Those who cannot interact civilly should not expect assistance in return and may be asked to leave the premises.
Reporting Issues: If you see any damaged equipment, unsafe behaviour, or someone gets injured, report it to a member of staff right away. We log all incidents and will respond immediately to help. Likewise, if you have any concerns or feel another visitor is not following the rules, please inform us – do not attempt to intervene directly in a way that could put you or others at risk.
Personal Belongings: Keep an eye on your personal items. We advise leaving valuables at home or with an adult guardian. The Playbarn cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen property. Check that your children do not bring toys or items from home into the play frame, as we are not liable if they get lost or broken.
Parties & Group Bookings Private Parties: If you have booked a birthday party or private event at The Playbarn, all of the above rules still apply to you and your guests. It is the party host’s responsibility to ensure that all children attending the party are supervised and follow the rules of play, just as during general public sessions. We recommend having enough adults present to supervise party children (aim for 1 adult per 5 children, especially for younger kids).
Party Food: Our no outside food policy extends to parties as well. We provide catering options for parties through our café. Birthday cakes are an exception – you may bring your own birthday cake for a booked party.
Rights and Disclaimers Management Rights:
The Playbarn management reserves the right to refuse admission or to ask any visitor to leave if these terms and conditions are not followed, or if we deem a person’s behaviour to be unsafe or inappropriate. This includes if the centre is at full capacity or in other circumstances affecting safety. All decisions made by management for the safety and comfort of guests are final.
Liability: While we do everything we can to provide a safe environment, The Playbarn will not be liable for injuries that occur from reckless play or failure to adhere to the rules. By using our facilities, you acknowledge that soft play involves inherent risks and you agree to supervise your children accordingly. We have taken reasonable precautions in design and maintenance of the equipment, but we cannot eliminate all risks associated with active children’s play By entering The Playbarn, you and your party agree to these terms and conditions. Our goal is to provide a fun, enjoyable, and safe experience for all families. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. If you have any questions about these rules or need assistance during your visit, please speak to a member of our team – we are here to help.
Important Additional Information for Party Bookings
Allergies, Intolerences, and Special Dietary Requirements
At The Playbarn, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority — particularly when it comes to food allergies and medical dietary needs. When booking your party, it is essential that you inform us of any food allergies, intolerances, or medically diagnosed dietary requirements. This includes severe allergies (e.g. nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten), coeliac disease, or any condition where accidental exposure could cause harm. Wherever possible, we require at least 4 days’ notice so we can carefully review ingredients and assess how best to reduce risk.
If a child has a severe allergy, we strongly encourage parents or carers to contact us directly before the party to discuss the details. Clear communication allows us to understand the level of risk and take appropriate precautions.
While we will always do everything reasonably possible to accommodate allergies, however, we must be transparent that we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment, and all food may contain traces of nuts.
For children with multiple or complex allergies, it may sometimes be safest for parents or carers or to speak with us in advance to agree on appropriate alternatives.
We are also happy to accommodate dietary requirements based on personal, cultural, or religious preferences — such as Vegan, Vegetarian, Kosher, Halal, or other lifestyle choices.
Please feel free to request ingredient information at any time
Non-exclusive or Best of Both Party
If you have booked a party during our public opening hours, your group will be seated in our private party booth, which comfortably accommodates approximately 15–20 adults.
Please note that if any of your guests prefer not to sit in the private booth, they may be required to reserve a table in our café area at a cost of £3 per person, with a minimum of four people per table.
Requests for additional café tables must be made at least two days in advance to allow us to confirm availability. Please be aware that tables are often booked ahead for play sessions, so it is unlikely that additional seating will be available on the day of your party without prior arrangement.
